Overall project goal: To design, implement and validate through in-flight trials an integrated aeronautical communications system.

4 integration levels:
Service level: a service-oriented architectural approach
Network level: addressing interoperability to ensure transition
Radio level: a software-defined integrated modular radio platform
Antenna/RF level: a L/KU satellite array antenna prototype

Acreo is involved in the project's sub-project SP5 which aims to design and develop a prototype phased array antenna to receive and transmit L-band SBB Satcom and to receive Ku band DVB Satcom’s.

Acreo's role: development, integration and packaging of arrays of electroabsorption modulators for airborne satellite communication antennas with optical beam forming.
