NOTTS - Next generation Over-The-Top multimedia Services

NOTTS will develop solutions and products for distribution of streaming media over Internet, so called over-the-top (OTT) distribution. New service architectures will be analyzed with data from live networks. Further, user content demand patterns and their influence on network and service architecture will be analyzed, based on data from live networks. The analysis will be used for developing strategies for e.g. cache supported media distribution. Methods for monitoring and evaluating experienced media quality will be developed.

We expect that NOTTS will result in networks (fixed and mobile) that are optimized to deliver streaming OTT media services, both regarding performance and cost. An example of optimization is caching of content close to the users. The project will also deliver solutions and services that better adapt to the available network conditions, through scalable and adaptive video distribution. The security situation regarding media distribution will be analyzed and solutions will be proposed, that take into account both performance and security.

The project will collect and analyze data from OTT media services in order to make detailed models of content demand patterns. The project will investigate service architectures for real time distribution of audio and video. Scalable and adaptive video coding and multi point distribution of OTT media including monitoring of experienced quality will be developed, and a demonstrator will be developed.
