Broadband Testbed for secure access to community services

With a set of successful demontrations to Vinnova the project was finalized in August 29, 2013.

The Secure Access Project has developed a generic system architecture that supports various types of services for both public benefit and sustainable growth. The targeted services are for example care in the home, energy management and energy measurement and other real estate services type such as individual metering and billing. The system architecture is flexible and can be supplemented with different security technologies, depending on the application. This has been verified by Secure Access architecture throughout the project and the developed technologies have been used in subsequent more applied projects.

The realization of the basic platform has been created in collaboration with a number of innovative Swedish companies for instance Inteno, Alleato, KTC, Makewave, nWise and others, see partner list below. These have now seen a market potential and have different configurations developed commercial solutions for the energy market, the healthcare market and home automation. Since Sweden is an early adopter in this field the project results give opportunities to export ideas. A first meeting will take place at HGI (Home Gateway Initiative) conference this autumn 2013, in Malmö. The majority of fixed network operators in the world will represented.

By using a common service platform for various applications in different projects an efficient coordination between these projects has been achieved (e.g projects INSIKT, FP7 Mobis, Secure Access, COPD and Smart ICT). The results of the Secure Access project will be further developed in these other projects, and will provide a foundation in creating a market for products and services within the area.

Background

Broadband networks are primarily used for commercial services as Internet access, IP-telephony and IPTV. However, broadband based services are becoming increasingly important for other areas such as health care and safety, real estate services for energy saving and control.

These services put new demands on the broadband network and communication. Most of these new requirements are linked to security in terms of robustness, availability, confidentiality and privacy, whereas the solutions shall function in an open multi-service and multi-operator environment.

Testbeds with end-user involvement

Acreo has together with 20 partners representing network owners and operators, equipment suppliers and service providers been granted VINNOVA financing for the project "Broadband Testbed for Secure Access of public services". The project develops robust communication solutions for secure access of public services by establishing requirements for the property and home networks, creating a system environment for the home and to verify the solutions in a testbed environment. Acreo has a long experience in developing and running testbeds. The Acreo National Testbed is a meeting place for a wide spectrum of regional, national and international institutions and companies working with research and commercialization of products and services for broadband networks; A testbed with the end-user in focus.

Gateway functionality for e-health

The main application areas for the project are healthcare and safety. So far the project has developed solutions for the Gateway functionality for e-health, Robust 3:rd party SW in OSGI environment, Secure authorization of users and equipment and Dual Homing between Fixed and Mobile network.  These solutions are implemented in gateways and demonstrated in e-health use cases in Acreo´s testbed. The project is run until August 2013.

Demonstrations

A set of demonstrations of the project results have been done thoughout the project.

Bredbandstestbädd för säker access av samhällstjänster

I framtidens bredbandsnät kommer samhällstjänster såsom e-hälsa, e-service, e-handel, e-utbildning, fastighetsautomation, smart grid och distansarbete att bli allt viktigare. Genom att minska transporter och bilresor bidrar de också till ökade miöjligheter att uppnå miljömålen.

Dessa tjänster ställer helt nya krav på både nät och överföring: Säkerheten blir central, samtidigt som lösningarna ska fungera i en öppen multitjänst- och multioperatörsmiljö.

Syfte

Detta projekt syftar till att ta fram förslag till lösningar och prova dessa i testbäddsmiljö, där verkliga testpiloter deltar. Fokus ligger på e-hälsa, dvs vård och omsorg, oerhört relevant område med tanke på den demografiska förändringen vi står inför. Här blir också kravet på säkerhet och enkelt hantering för slutanvändaren särskilt tydligt. Besökare från vårdcentraler ska exempelvis kunna återskapa den egna säkerhetsmiljön.

Projektets tillämpningsområde är hemmet. Hur skapar man en säker men ändå lätthanterlig miljö för alla terminaler och sensorer som i hemmet kan möjliggöra kvarboende, vård och omsorg inklusive anhörigvård? Hur skapas möjlighet att jobba hemifrån med känslig information, e-handel och olika typer av samhällets e-tjänster som kräver integritet och säkerhet?

I projektet får partner/aktörer från många olika branscher dessutom en unik möjlighet att samverka.
