BatSense - Sensor for battery state estimation

Estimation of battery states is of very high importance for safe, reliable and efficient use of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles as well as other applications. So far such estimation has proven to be associated with challenges that we hope to be able circumvent. We focus on battery state estimation by the use of direct measurements of the battery’s physical state of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH).

This project builds on a pre-study financed by Energimyndigheten, in which it was shown that information about the state of charge in lithium-ion cells can be extracted with a simple sensor system, mounted on the outside of the cell without contacting the electrodes. In the project, the reliability and functionality of the sensor and the information it provides are identified by battery tests typical for vehicle applications.
