Electromagnetic Lab

Our laboratory facilities enable us to conduct advanced research and development projects in-house. We can carry out both static and dynamic magnetic characterization and analysis.

Furthermore, we have a magnetically shielded room for low magnetic field and low noise measurements as well as equipment for microwave measurement up to 85 GHz.

To measure static magnetic properties, we use a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) from LakeShore Ltd. With this instrument, we can measure magnetization versus field (hysteresis loops and magnetization and demagnetization curves) and magnetization versus time (measurement of long relaxations of, for instance, thermally blocked magnetic nanoparticles). The maximum magnetic field in the VSM is 2 T, and it has a magnetic moment resolution of 1 nAm2.

We use our in-house developed AC susceptometers DynoMag and Dynomag HF to measure magnetic dynamic properties from 1 Hz up to 10 MHz. These instruments can analyze magnetic samples in the form of liquids (for example, ferrofluids), powders, and solids.

We have an Agilent 8510XF Network Analyzer System for microwave measurements up to 85 GHz. The system can be used for measurement of reflection and transmission parameters of devices.

We also have a magnetically shielded room from Vacuumschmelze, where we can achieve a shielding factor of about 1300 times at DC. This enables us to perform low-magnetic-field and low-noise measurements with SQUIDs (Superconducting QUantum Inteference Device) or other magnetic measurements that require low external fields.
