wearITmed - Wearable sensors in smart textiles

At this lunchseminar Kristina Malmgren, professor at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, and Jan Wipenmyr, senior project manager at RISE Acreo, will tell us about the wearITmed project.

The overall objective of the project is to develop a novel wearable sensor system with advanced signal processing and sensor fusion that utilises textiles as an active component to overcome problems related to signal artefacts emanating from sensor-patient interface and to provide patient comfort. This sensor system aims to monitor the symptoms of neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Parkinson´s disease and stroke.

Specific goals are to develop a wearable sensor system demonstrator, including both integrated gyros/accelerometers and textile sensors, useful for the evaluation of clinically relevant movement patterns and other physiological parameters, and further to establish disease discriminating and treatment responsive objective variables.

There is a need for easy-to-use wearable sensors with the possibility of continuous measurement, both at hospital and at home making it possible to improve diagnosis, monitor disease progression or improvement and tailor treatments.

Professor Kristina Malmgren, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, is the principal investigator for the project, and Jan Wipenmyr is the senior project manager at RISE Acreo.

The five year project is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (Stiftelsen för strategisk forskning) and include the MedTech West partners Sahlgrenska Academy/University of Gothenburg and University of Borås together with RISE/Acreo and Swerea/IVF.

If you register before 13:00 pm on Monday 8 May, you will be served a light lunch after the seminar.
