How to create business based on R&D
The mission of Acreo is to evaluate innovative research from all over the world and develop and transfer the results to our customers or new start ups, in Sweden and internationally. In order to achieve this the access to state of the art laboratories is essential. In this issue we describe the laboratories in Jönköping, Norrköping, Kista and Hudiksvall and some of the new start ups originating from our R&D activities.

- Spin-offs make the wheels spin
Since the start of Acreo, through the merger of IMC and IOF, three different roles have evolved; R&D - transfer - exploitation
- Wavebreaker AB
Flextronics Design Sweden in Norrköping was formed in May 2005 when Flextronics bought the spin-off company Wavebreaker AB in Pronova Science Park in Norrköping.
- Silex Microsystems AB
It all started in the early 90s with a PhD project defined between S3/KTH and Radi Medical Systems to develop a very small pressure sensor. The PhD student involved was Edvard Kälvesten, who later lead the founding members of Silex Microsystems.
- AMDS
One example of how long term research funding is rewarded by industrialisation.
- Acreo fiber optics
Acreo is a resource for independent research and development in fiber optics. As the telecom sector is slowly recovering, fiber optic technologies continue to be exploited in various other applications. This article gives a few examples of fiber optic applications, and summarizes Acreo’s resources in fiber optics.
- Laboratory worth its weight in gold
Access to a well-equipped development environment which can also be used for pilot production or small scale manufacturing is worth its weight in gold, especially for start up companies in microelectronics.
- Acreo Internconnect and Packaging
Acreo in Norrköping focuses on innovative electronic solutions. Presently the activities concern two main areas: research and small scale production within thin film substrate technology for microelectronic applications; and printed organic electronics.
- Acreo Optical System and Networks Lab - OSNL
A unique resource for advanced R&D in optical networking which also serves as the base for the Swedish National Broadband Testbed for optical broadband communication.
- Robust Electronics
Since 2001 Acreo is leading the Center for Robust Electronics in Jönköping as a cooperation with Jönköping University and regional industry. Within the area of robust electronics wearable electronic products are identified as an important growing segment where Acreo has a strong position.
- KPRC - Kista Photonics Research Center
KPRC was founded in the beginning of 2002 to create what is presently the largest R&D center in photonics in Sweden and one of the largest centers of that kind in Europe.
- Seminar Day: Detectors and Modulators for Imaging
bringing together the various actors in this field in order to present a complete picture of both the commercial and academic activities which are being pursued, and to show their potential.
