Acreo is a consortium member in the EU funded research project SMART-EC. SMART-EC aims at the development of self powered (energy harvesting and storage) electrochromic (EC) device integrating EC thin film transistor component on a flexible substrate. Its purpose is to save energy, and to enhance comfort and security in automotive, ID-card and smart packaging applications. The project is coordinated by Centro Ricerche FIAT (IT). Acreo’s main role in the project is printing of functional materials and integration of the individual components to a system.

SMART-EC is a Large-Scale Project bringing together 13 partners. It is supported by funding under the Seventh Research Framework Programme of the European Union. The project is financed under the Work Programme ICT-2009-3.9 and has the duration 48 months (1st September 2010 to 31st August 2014).
The project website is found at http://www.smart-ec.eu/fe .
As a part of the dissemination activities in the project, SMART-EC is the organizer of a symposium at E-MRS fall meeting 2011, September 19-23, in Warzaw, Poland. The symposium is titled ”Towards lightweight, flexible and self sustained ion-based devices” and aims at gathering research related to the project objectives.
