Fiber lasefrs and components for fluorescence microscopy

Charming FP7

The European project CHARMING aims at developing compact and fully fibred visible lasers for fluorescence spectroscopy, high resolution co-focal microscopy and tryptophan imaging. These applications require

  • pulsed operation (about 100 ps at repetition rates from 1 to 80 MHz),
  • various wavelengths in the visible (from 515 to 630 nm typically) and in the UV (for tryptophan imaging),
  • high average power (up to 500 mW for high resolution) and
  • a polarisation maintaining fiber delivery when possible. 

The project focus are the development of semiconductor laser sources in the 1.1 nm to 1.2 nm band, Bismuth and Raman amplifiers, pulse gating and wavelength conversion fiber based solutions. 

Within CHARMING, Acreo develops pulse selection components, leveraging years of world leading research and development within electrooptic fibers and components.

Acreos main focus in the project: Development of functional fiber components for single pulse selection and their integration in high performance laser systems for biomedical imaging applications.
