Fiber optic components can be anything from passive wavelength selective filters (FBGs), couplers and splitters, to devices that perform active functions such as all-optical switching, tunable filtering or microfluidics.
Components using electrode-filled fibers are one particular expertise of Acreo. Thermal poling makes the fiber electrooptic, allowing fast, all-fiber, phase modulation. Another component technology using similar fiber, provides extremely fast polarization control, that can be extended to e.g. pulse control functions such as q-switching or pulse-picking in lasers.
Fiber Bragg gratings are very widely used for filtering, reflectors and wavelength locking. Acreo has expertise in fiber Bragg gratings (FBG), including high temperature gratings (CCGs), and long period gratings.
Acreo is part of Swedish ICT together with Interactive Institute, Santa Anna, SICS and Viktoria Institute.
