Acreo and LTH participated in the fourth annual NEM Summit (http://nem-summit.eu/), which took place in Torino, Italy on the 27th-29th of September. NEM (Networked electronic media) is a European technology platform under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). There was a strong focus on media in this event, which was manifested in the NEM art competition together with a piano concert opening the summit and a LED Dance Performance during the closing ceremony. An inspiring setting boosting creativity. Bob Sumner from Disney Research quoted John Lasseter, the creative genius behind Pixar studios: “The art challenges technology, technology inspires art”.

The summit comprises presentations and an exhibition, in which the Celtic IPNQSIS project (Acreo and LTH) had a booth to demonstrate its activities regarding video transmission and quality monitoring. A demonstration of video distribution, and the impact on video quality from network impairments, such as packet loss, jitter, etc.. In the project, solutions for network and traffic monitoring are developed. The Swedish SME and project member, Procera Networks will further develop its traffic management solutions. Alkit Communications, also a Swedish SME, will further develop its video collaboration solutions, especially considering service optimization and adaptation to the current state of the network. Both of these development activities are performed in close collaboration with Acreo and LTH, and several demonstrations are planned in the future, at e.g. Celtic event and similar occasions.
