I recognize that 2010 was a most exciting year and I´m proud over the achievements of my colleagues. Evidently, we together make a difference since most of our customers come back year after year. They apparently recognize a value in the cooperation with us.
One way of measuring the value creation is by observing the development of the twenty spin off companies that are based on the competencies developed by Acreo. In 2010 the companies reported a record breaking 1200 MSEK in turnover.
Another measure of us making a difference is the accumulated results of the SME targeted development projects performed over ten years time. The SME´s claim an increase in turnover related to these projects of some 300 MSEK in the last year.
It is a well known fact that Information and Communication Technology is a strong driver of growth and value creation throughout the industry. As a research institute in the ICT sector, we rely heavily on a solid base of science. This is evidenced for example by the fact that we had nearly 100 peer reviewed scientific papers, co-workers appointed professor at Universities and giving invited talks at many of the major international conferences within our special fields of expertise.
ICT is also an important enabler of finding the solutions to the grand societal challenges we are facing, such as sustainability of natural resources, energy, health and future communication. In this report we give a few examples of our projects in which we make a difference in these important questions; development of sensor based solutions for energy efficient steel making processes, future access and home networks for next generation broadband services, night vision system for increased road safety and printed energy harvesting systems - to mention a few.
We have also chosen to highlight a few of our current on-going projects to give a flavor of where we are heading, today and tomorrow. I hope you will enjoy the reading and that it will give you inspiration for a future cooperation.
